In this 4-week class, Hugo Richard will walk you through his thoughts and process on line work and character design, layout, and presentation.

We’ll cover:

• Simplified Anatomy

• Line work

Duration: 4 weeks
Date & Time: Sundays, starting March 9th at 10:00 AM Eastern
Skill level: All skill levels welcome
Tiers: Receive direct feedback in class or spectate without homework feedback
Format: 5 hour live class with combination of lectures, demos, and feedback. Recordings are generally provided within a couple days of each live session.
Materials: Any digital or traditional tools. Paintovers will be done digitally.

All weeks will be a combination of lecture, demos and feedback.

Week 1: My art journey, work experience, reference, finding inspiration, portfolio reviews
Week 2: Constructive drawing demo, breaking down anatomy into simple primitives, keeping things simple, gesture demo, shapes and linework process
Week 3: Character design, the power of rhythm when creating a character, making them compelling, exaggerating shapes, presentation, pose, attitude and expression
Week 4: finishing your character, extensive homework feedback, Q&A

Hugo Richard is a Brazilian character designer and concept artist based in Montreal working in the industry for the past ten years. with a variety of clients such as CD Projekt Red, Games Workshop, DreamWorks, Gearbox and more. Currently, he works as an assistant character art director for the horror franchise Outlast, overseeing all key aspects of the universe and its characters.
