STUDENT EXPERIENCES
“Every class was for me a new way to make each step when creating an illustration, and a new way of understanding concepts I thought I already knew well, so in the end I’ve come up with a way better workflow and an overall improved vision on how to create new things.
“I’m an art student looking for work right now. I was following Ognjen’s work for a while, so when I saw that he was making a mentorship, I got it right away. I thought that the mentor was going to be fully focused on character design, but it covered way more than I expected. From week one, you learn not only the knowledge of how to create stuff (character, assets and environments if you want too), but to train and focus your brain on how to improve each step to make the best of it, and finally get a great piece of illustration in the end.
“Also, you know that there are many good artists than aren’t capable to explain all the knowledge they have, but Ognjen is not one of those! He’s a great teacher, and he explains things in every way possible so that you get your question properly answered. He gives great feedback, telling you the things to improve as well as the things you’ve done right, giving also explanations on why is that, so that you get the point and apply the feedback knowing what you’re doing and why are you doing it. And he also focuses on the goal of each of us (the students) to help us get there, not giving general information, but personal feedback that gets to the point we’re looking for.
“Overall, I’ll definitely recommend this mentorship, either for fun or if you’re looking to work as an artist, and not matter the skills you have, you’ll improve no matter what!”
—Paloma de Miguel
“A lot of the knowledge i needed was very well presented and categorized in a way to easily to repeat for future exercises… i was fully satisfied with this course!”
—Erik Bernt
“I used the character illustration and lessons I’ve learned in this course for a school project and received an award, so I feel grateful.
“Artist Ognjen is very talented and thorough with instructions, and I gained a lot of knowledge from his class, such a good experience”
—Bong Kim
“I haven’t taken many such classes, but this one was the best by far. The process was neatly broken down over 8 weeks and the critique of the work was very much concrete and to the point. I came out of it learning new rendering techniques as well as a better way of thinking about any given project. The class with Ognjen Sporin was definitely worth it.”
—Damir Omić
“We spent a lot of time gathering references, doing iterations, and building the foundation of our piece before we ever began rendering. I think it helped a lot in terms of self-direction, and was something I needed to work on a lot. I appreciated driving some of the fundamentals home too, like big medium small, tangents, and such—I’ve begun to think of those things now as I draw.
“Ognjen was a wonderful instructor who prepared a fun and engaging class. It helped me get past some problems I was having with my art and make some major breakthroughs with color and composition. I’m grateful for the experience, and look forward to the next one!”
